Two hundred Volusia County families are receiving energy-saving kits through a new partnership between Florida Power Light and The Salvation Army. The kits are being distributed Friday at The Salvation Army in Daytona Beach. Recipients were pre-selected from families who regularly use the organization’s food pantry; the kits are not available as a walk-up giveaway. Each kit includes practical items such as doorjamb seals to help block air leaks, a refrigerator thermometer, wool dryer balls, an LED nightlight, an HVAC filter whistle and a smart power switch.“We’ve never done the energy kits before,” said Salvation Army Lt. So I’m super excited to be able to take these to the community.”FPL representatives are also sharing energy-saving tips and information about programs that may help customers manage their bills. FPL’s Saving Steps program offers eligible customers a one-time $200 bill credit as they learn ways to reduce energy use.
